CSTA Volunteer of the Year Finalist

March 12, 2019

Screen Shot 2019-03-12 at 11.29.27 AM.pngA staff member in SJASD is being recognized by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) for her tremendous dedication to sport.

Divisional Literacy Coach Ms. Jennifer Stark has been selected as one of three finalists for the CSTA Sport Event Volunteer of the Year Award. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of an individual's volunteer efforts during the hosting of one or more sport events in Canada in 2018.

Ms. Stark is actively involved in schools across our Division as a literacy coach, but also has been a long-standing Ultimate Frisbee coach in the Westwood family of schools. Her contributions working with youth in the community made her an excellent candidate to oversee more than 125 junior volunteers to carry out the WFDF 2018 World Masters Ultimate Club Championships. The event took place in Winnipeg from July 29 to August 4 in 2018. Ms. Stark arrived at the event early each morning to greet the junior volunteers, as they monitored and kept score of more than 300 games throughout the tournament. The event left a lasting impression for all who attended and was a great success for our city and for the World Flying Disc Federation. Her level of commitment and professionalism, as well as ability to collaborate and act as a leader, made her an excellent candidate for this award.

On Wednesday, March 20, the CTSA Awards will be presented in Ottawa. We wish Ms. Stark the best of luck in her category, as she is one of three outstanding volunteers in the running. We are proud of her finalist recognition and thankful for her ongoing dedication to youth and sport in our province, and in SJASD. Good luck, coach Stark!
