Turning bags into a bench at Strathmillan

November 30, 2017

Composite Bench.jpgOver the past 11 years, elementary schools in Manitoba have collected over nine million plastic bags for recycling.  Strathmillan School was one of 166 schools to participate in the Bag Up Manitoba program this year.  The school's Green Team inspired the students and the school community to do more to reduce, reuse and recycle.  Students were encouraged to collect as many plastic shopping bags as possible and bring them to school to be recycled. Strathmillan School was honoured to have Tom Ethans of Take Pride Winnipeg and Sarah Wallace of Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba join them at an assembly recently to present the school with a composite bench made out of recycled bags. Most importantly, Mr. Ethans asked the students to pledge to take care of their rooms, their school, their community and their world.  Together we can make a difference! Great work, Strathmillan.
