High school apprenticeship option.

Select high schools in the St. James Assiniboia School Division (SJASD) offer various apprentice-able trades and technologies programs to keep up with the demand for skilled labour shortages and general skill knowledge. Programs can help students enter the job market after graduation or prepare them for further postsecondary education. In addition, specific programs can give hours towards their apprenticeship.

Explore programs in technology

Are you a high school student? St. James Assiniboia School division offers excellent interactive courses that will help you discover the opportunities for outstanding careers in trades and technology that could help you impact the rest of your life.

The St. James School Division, Skilled trades and technology options, are an excellent choice for students in grades 10 - 12 looking to complete their high school diploma and at the same time get a head start developing knowledge and skills for entry into high-demand trade or technical careers.

There are hundreds of options out there that can have you on your feet, working with your hands and your newly acquired skills and building a career that's both challenging and rewarding as you see your hard work paying off right before your eyes. It's no wonder that many skilled trades and technology workers report high levels of job satisfaction and great pay. If this sounds like it interests you, our many varied skilled trades and technology programs might be for you.

The skilled trades offer not only plenty of career options but also thousands of available jobs. With nearly half of the workforce eligible to retire in coming years, the demand for trades workers has never been higher. In the construction trades and transportation trades alone, over 300,000 jobs will need to be filled over the next decade by intelligent, skilled people like you.

These program options are for students entering Grade 10.

How does it work?

Students spend part of each day in their technical program with a dedicated cohort group of high school-aged learners. Then, for the remainder of the day, they join their fellow students from their respective home schools to achieve their required core and optional courses needed to graduate.

What do I could I do upon completion?

Students earn a Manitoba high school diploma from the Senior Years Technology Education Program, which they can use toward entrance into the workforce, college or university, with a program certificate and possible hours granted towards their apprenticeship (requirements must be met to achieve). We encourage our students to earn a dual diploma- vocational and university entrance level diploma to ensure choices in their futures.
