Volleyball Results in SJASD

​Great job to all SJASD teams on another fantastic season at both the Middle and Senior Years levels. A special thank you to all coaches for your time and dedication this season and for supporting our SJASD athletes!  Continue reading for league and provincial results!

Grade 8 Volleyball Championships
The Bruce Middle School Boys and Girls teams both finished 1st in the 2018 Grade 8 Provincial Volleyball Championship tournament, held at Dakota Community Centre, November 30 - December 1. The Bruce Bearcats brought home two provincial championship banners and celebrated another outstanding season. Way to go, Bearcats!

John Taylor Varsity Boys 
Congratulations to the Piper Varsity Boys Volleyball team on qualifying for the "AAA" Provincial Volleyball Tournament. The Pipers placed third in their pool, allowing them to move on and play the Calvin Christian Eagles in the quarter finals. The Pipers did not advance to the semi-finals, but had a great performance in the Provincial tournament.

Congratulations to the St. James Collegiate Varsity Girls Volleyball team who defeated Stonewall in three straight sets on November 15 to qualify for the AAA Provincial Championship. At Provincials, the Jimmie Girls played four hard games in the round robin but came up short of qualifying for the quarter finals. Great season, Jimmies!

Westwood and Sturgeon Varsity Girls in Provincials

Congratulations to the Westwood Warriors and Sturgeon Heights Huskies Girls Volleyball teams on qualifying to compete in the "AAAA" Provincial tournament. The Sturgeon Heights Huskies knocked out Westwood in round one after going into four sets. The Huskies went on to play the Portage Saints in the quarter finals. Unfortunately, that was the end of the tournament for the Huskies as they came up short after four hard sets. Congratulations to both teams!

Congratulations to the Westwood Collegiate Varsity Boys Volleyball team on placing 2nd in the Tier 1 WWAC Championship. The game was held on November 16 at Oak Park High School where the warriors played the St. Paul's Crusaders in the final. The Westwood team lost the first two sets by only a couple points and the third set solidified the win for the crusaders. The results were 24-25, 22-25, 16-25. The team moved onto to play in the provincial tournament, where they advanced to the quarter finals. They were defeated in the quarter finals by the fourth seeded team, the Lord Selkirk Royals. Great season, Warriors!

Sturgeon Heights Junior Varsity Boys
Congratulations to the Sturgeon JV Boys Volleyball team who brought home third place in the Tier 1 WWAC on November 15 after playing against Portage. The game was held at Oak Park High School and the final results were 21-25, 18-25 and 25-27 for the Huskies! The Huskies moved onto the Provincial AAAA Junior Varsity Tournament held on November 22-26. The Sturgeon Boys team beat the Sisler Spartans in round one and unfortunately lost to the Dakota Lancers in the quarter final. Great season, Huskies!

Congratulations to the John Taylor JV Boys Volleyball team who claimed the Tier 2 WWAC Championship on November 15 playing in the final against Shaftesbury. The game was held at Shaftesbury High School and went into five sets as the first two were won by Shaftesbury and the Pipers won the last three straight. The results were 20-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 and 15-18 for John Taylor Collegiate. This win earned the JV Pipers a ticket to the Provincial Tournament, held on November 22-24 at Neelin High School. The John Taylor JV Boys beat the Neelin Spartans in the first round of the tournament and lost to the Westgate Wings in round two. They moved on to play in the third-place final against the Calvin Christian Eagles, where they lost in two close sets, earning themselves fourth at Provincials 2018. Congratulations, Pipers!

Congratulations to the Westwood Collegiate Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball team on being WWAC Tier 1 Finalists. They were defeated in the WWAC Championship final against Oak Park on November 15. The results were 21-25, 13-25, 12-25. As the team moved onto Provincials, they experienced great success besting three teams to solidify themselves a spot in the Provincial final, yet again against the Oak Park Raiders.  The Provincial Championship game was held on November 26 at Investors Group Athletic Centre. The Warriors worked hard for three close sets but couldn't overcome the OP Raiders. We are proud to celebrate their Provincial Finalist achievement and congratulate all players on their efforts. Special congratulations are extended to Tournament All-Stars Abby H. and Kate W. Impressive season, Warriors!

John Taylor Junior Varsity Girls
Congratulations to the John Taylor Collegiate Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball team who qualified for the "AAA" Provincial Tournament held November 22-26. The JT girls did not advance to the finals but worked hard together throughout the round-robin in Pool 1.

Congratulations to the following teams on earning 1st and 2nd place in the Tier 1 St. James-Assiniboia Middle Years Athletic Association Division Tournament:
