Volleyball Results in SJASD (2019)

All SJASD Volleyball teams, both at the Middle and Senior Years levels, did a great job this year. Notably, an impressive 2019 Volleyball season this year for Westwood and Sturgeon Heights. Continue reading for the league and provincial results!

Sturgeon Heights and Westwood Warriors Junior Varsity Girls (AAAA JV – Girls)


Two great SJASD AAAA JV Girls Volleyball teams battled it out at the Championship Finals on November 25 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (University of Manitoba). The Sturgeon Heights Huskies and Westwood Warriors each made it to the final championship, but in the end, the Huskies won 3-0. The last game results were 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 — an excellent season for both teams. Congratulations to the following Championship M.V.P.s and All-Stars:

Sturgeon Heights Junior Varsity Boys (AAAA JV Boys)

Congratulations to the Sturgeon Heights Huskies Boys Volleyball team for making it all the way to the semi-finals in the AAAA JV Provincial tournament. The Huskies started strong with a first-round win against the Steinbach Regional Sabres, but ultimately the Sabres would come back with a (1-3) victory. The last game results were 19-25, 25-16, 25-11, 28-26. Good season Huskies.

Westwood Collegiate Varsity Boys (AAAA Boys)

Congratulations to the Westwood Collegiate Varsity Boys Volleyball team on placing 2nd in the AAAA Provincial High School Volleyball Championship. After winning a thriller (3-2) over the St. Paul Crusaders, the Westwood Warriors moved on to the finals. The final game was on December 2 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre, the University of Manitoba, where the Warriors played the Dakota Lancers. The Westwood team lost the first two sets by only a couple points and fought back to win the third set. The win was solidified for the Dakota Lancers in the fourth, as they won the championship. The last game results were 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15. Great season, Warriors!

Sturgeon Heights and Westwood Warriors Varsity Girls in Provincials (AAAA Girls)

Congratulations to the Sturgeon Heights Girls Volleyball team and Westwood Warriors Girls Volleyball team on qualifying for the AAAA Provincial Volleyball Tournament. The Westwood Warriors were bumped out of the tournament against the Dakota Lancers 1-3, and the Sturgeon Heights Huskies challenged the PCI Saints, but unfortunately lost 0-3.

John Taylor Piper and Westwood Warriors Varsity Boys (AAA Boys JV)

Congratulations to the John Taylor Piper Varsity Boys Volleyball team and Westwood Warriors Varsity Boys Volleyball team on qualifying for the AAA JV Provincial Volleyball Tournament. Both teams placed first in their pool but did not advance into the semi-finals.

Grade 8 Volleyball Championships (Grade 8)

Congratulations to Ness Middle school Girls team and Hedges Middle school Boys team, who both finished 1st in the 2019 Grade 8 Provincial Volleyball Championship tournament, held at St. James Collegiate on November 22. Ness defeated Bruce 2-0 and Hedges defeated George Waters 2-0 in the semi-final.
