Top 10 Provincial finish in Physics Contest

June 15, 2017

Grade 12 Westwood Collegiate student Mike A. scores Top 10 in the province in the high school CAP (Canadian Association of Physicists) Physics contest. The CAP high school exam is based upon an internationally recognized syllabus, the I.B. Physics Higher Core Curriculum and is intentionally a high level contest. Only the top students from each school are expected to take part in the exam and only a handful of students in Canada are expected to completely finish the CAP Exam in the time allotted. Students from only four schools placed in the Top 10 in Manitoba out of more than 100 students writing.

On June 5, Mike A. and Westwood Collegiate Physics Teacher Mr. Johnson attended an awards ceremony hosted by the University of Manitoba. The evening consisted of speeches from the Dean of Science at the University of Manitoba, the Dean of Science at University of Winnipeg and the head of the University of Manitoba Physics Department, as well as staff and graduate students. The high school students had the opportunity to mingle with physics professors and graduate students alike.

A huge congratulations to Mike A. on this exceptional achievement. We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavours and are proud to announce a Top 10 Provincial finalist in our Division. An extended congratulations to his teacher, Mr. Johnson.
