​On Thursday, September 8, 2022, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away.

All flags across the St. James-Assiniboia School Division (SJASD) will be flown at Half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral.

This practice aligns with rules for half-masting the national flag on all federal buildings, schools and establishments in Canada as outlined by the Government of Canada upon the death of The Sovereign.

According to the Government of Canada, it is a well-established procedure whereby countries bestow an honour and express a collective sense of sorrow through a dramatic visual statement that speaks to the sense of loss that is shared by citizens.

SJASD encourages educators to speak to students in a developmentally appropriate way about this historical event.
