Social Media and Online Gaming Safety for Caregivers

October 17, 2022

onlinesafety_crop_webnews.pngOn October 6th, Constable Orlando Buduhan of the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) provided parents and caregivers with a virtual presentation focused on children and online safety. The presentation covered the risks of social media and online gaming, as well as how children can use these platforms in a safe, positive manner.

As per WPS's website, the presentation was initially designed for students. However, modifications were made to address the many concerns parents and caregivers may have regarding the dangers and risks facing young people online.

In developing the presentation, WPS consulted a school psychologist, parents, School Resource Officers, and detectives in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The information in this presentation is suitable for parents, caregivers and teachers. However, due to the sensitive nature of some of the content, this presentation is not recommended for children.

SJASD encourages caregivers and teachers to watch the presentation, which will be available for 30 days until early November.
