As part of Education Week, SJASD is beginning an annual observance to recognize former staff members and Trustees that have passed away during the year (April to April).

On the Thursday of Education Week—which this year falls on April 20, 2023—flags will be lowered to half-mast.

The gesture comes after the SJASD School Board amended the Division's half-masting policy in June 2022 to recognize this group.​

In addition to the death of former colleagues, the half-masting policy continues to recognize the passing of current students, staff members, Trustees, and Senior Administrators (Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer).

Education Week is proclaimed by the Province of Manitoba on an annual basis to recognize the value of education and its importance to providing opportunities for Manitoba students to reach their full potential and to live a good life. This year, Education Week runs from April 17 to 21, 2023. View the Proclamation.
