Warriors win Tier 1 JV Championship

November 22, 2017

westwood jv win.jpgThe Westwood Collegiate JV Boys Volleyball team is heading into the MHSAA Provincial Championship Tournament on a positive note.

After a successful 9-1 regular season record the boys were optimistic about their chances in the playoffs. They earned a bye in the 1st round and then went on to defeat Vincent Massey in the semi-finals and St. Pauls in the finals to bring home the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference title. Bryce M. was championship match MVP, Easton G. was selected as a WWAC tournament All Star and Bryce C. was selected as the WWAC MVP.

This was a historic win as it was the first time since the WWAC was formed that a boys team from Westwood has won a conference volleyball championship. The majority of this year's team has been playing school and club volleyball for the past few seasons together and their experience and familiarity with each other is starting to pay off. The JV Warriors have a record of 41 wins and 5 losses this season, including tournaments. They won the MBCI and Garden City tournaments and were finalists in the Miles Mac and Daniel Mac tournaments. The team is presently heading into the MHSAA Provincial Championships ranked second. Coaches Ken Vince and Kathryn Warner are proud of what the guys have accomplished so far, but realize there is still a lot of work to do to meet their ultimate goal.

The Warriors will compete November 23 and 25 at Dakota Collegiate with hopes of making it to the final on November 27 at 8 p.m. at Investors Group Athletic Centre.
