The Grade 3s at Athlone School are taking part in the Learn to Play program at the Keith Bodley Arena. For 12 weeks, the students are learning how to skate, pass, handle a stick on the ice, and build team skills. This program was developed by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association. The on-ice instruction and certified coaching is led by National Hockey League Alumni. The students have been outfitted with all the necessary equipment, which is theirs to keep as they continue to explore youth hockey in the future.
The students' skill development has been amazing to watch. Some of them had never been on ice skates before, and are now zooming around the ice playing hockey! Parents are invited to meet at the rink on Thursdays, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, to watch their child on the ice. The last day, March 21 will be an exciting one, as they will be playing a game against each other.
