Did you cast your ballot in the Federal election on October 21st? Grade 4/5 students in Rooms 9 and 10 did as part of the "Student Vote" campaign.
Student Vote is an authentic learning program that provides students with the opportunity to experience the voting process firsthand and practice the habits of active and informed citizenship.
After learning about different types of government systems through a variety of hands-on tasks, students researched the parties, candidates, and platforms. They learned about the voting process and how to properly cast a ballot, culminating in a visit to the “Athlone Polling Station," on October 17th.
Following are the results of the Athlone Student Vote:
CANDIDATE | POLITICAL PARTY | VOTE COUNT |
Doug Eyolfson | Liberal Party | 17 |
Ken St. George | NDP | 14 |
Steven Fletcher | People's Party | 7 |
Kristin Lauhn-Jensen | Green Party | 3 |
Melissa Penner | Christian Heritage Party | 1 |
Brian Ho | Independent Party | 1 |
Marty Morantz | Conservative Party | 0 |
