Board Games in the Classroom

In Room 4 and Room 8, we have implemented board games as part of our weekly schedule since the start of the school year. There are many advantages to providing kids with the opportunity to play board games. In our age of technology, this skill seems to be disappearing quickly. Not only are board games educational, they teach social skills, communication, patience, following rules, and how to act when you win and/or lose a game. (The Winnipeg Free Press, Saturday, August 3, 2019 – Olaf Pyttlik, co-owner of Across the Board Game Café) On November 26, we had the privilege of hosting Joel, a gamer from Across the Board Game Café. He brought numerous games for our students to try, and was so knowledgeable in quickly teaching them the games and then letting them go. It was fun to watch the students playing new games, and interacting/engaging in a social and educational atmosphere. If you would like more information, or a list of kid friendly board games for the upcoming holiday season (think gifts!), please contact Mrs. Carter.
