Hello Bruce Families,

Mrs. Cantafio and I hope the start of the Lunar New Year will bring your family lots of opportunities to stay connected, prosper and celebrate!

Mrs. Yard and Ms Thordarson (school social worker) have been busy going to each grade 7 classroom to deliver the Canadian Mental Health Association’s program “Speak Up”. Students are learning that we all have mental health and that it is “the capacity of each and all of us to feel, think and act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face.” Topics include the power of our words, building empathy and compassion, how to talk about mental health, supports and resources will be covered.

This Thursday (January 26this our Winter Concert, featuring amazing performances from our concert bands, jazz bands and choirs. The concert is scheduled for 7pm in the gym, though students should be in the band room by 6:30. Students should do their best to dress in all black – pants, shirt and shoes. I promise to wear pants to this one. ????

This Friday (January 27thwe will be handing out registration forms to all current grade 6 and 7 students. This form will be pre-filled with demographic information and must be reviewed by parents/guardians. If changes are needed, please strike out the old information and write (in pen) the correct information. Grades 6 and 7 registration forms are due back by February 10th.

Current Grade 8 students will be receiving their high school registration form on February 10th and they are due back to BMS by the February 24th. Students in Grade 8 will be receiving course information on February 10th to help with the registration process. As in past years, you must complete the registration form for your catchment school, even if you plan to apply for a school of choice. As per division procedures “The SJASD school webpages will have a link for an online waitlist for students who wish to apply for schools of choice for 2023-24. All students on this waitlist should be registered first at their catchment school. This waitlist will close on June 15, 2023. Families on the waitlist will be notified of the status of their request starting June 16, 2023.”

Have a great night,

Dan MacNeil
