Hello Bruce Families,

As you most likely heard, the Provincial government has announced a change in the pandemic response level to Yellow as of the 15th of this week. It doesn’t really change the operation within schools as masks and cohorting for our grade 6 students will still be in place.

Registration forms for grade 8 students (next year grade 9) went home Friday. Please review and sign the forms as soon as you can, by the 18th if possible. Final due date is February 25th. Each family is provided the registration form for your home school and this must be returned, even if you plan to apply to a school of choice. The link for the school of choice application can be found here. Please remember this process is first come, first served and students will be accepted based on a school’s ability to accommodate. We will meet with students again on Tuesday to discuss optional courses, but we encourage you to look at the high school website for course descriptions in advance.

This week will be a busy one in the school as we are planning activities to tie in with the Olympics and other activities to promote wellness. For wellness, the students will view a video each day during reading time on topics such as mindfulness, gratitude, chair yoga and positive mindset, then participate in a short activity, and finally, complete a journal write. Journals are being provided for each student.

Following their mindfulness session, the students will compete in a school-wide Olympics activity. Our PE staff of Mr. Kostiuk and Ms Brown have created indoor and outdoor activities for each day that reflect Canada’s pursuit for gold. Please make sure your child is dressed for cold weather as the forecast is calling for a couple of cold days this week. Each student has been assigned to one of four countries and in the end, the winning country with the most points wins a pizza party.

That’s it for us, have a great week everyone!

Go Canada!
