Parents of Grade 5 students..... the Human Sexuality component of the Physical/Health Education Curriculum (formerly called Family Life) will start in May and June this year. Lesson materials are appropriate for the grade level and the maturity of the students. The lessons focus on several topics such as: the physical changes associated with puberty and the importance of personal hygiene practices; identifying the social-emotional changes and responsibilities associated with puberty; learning about the structure and function of the reproductive and endocrine systems of human beings; the effects of HIV and AIDS on the immune system; and safety guidelines for preventing or avoiding uncomfortable or dangerous situations.
