Youth Forum News.JPGYouth Forum, February 2018

On February 7th, four students from grades 6 and 7 attended Youth Forum at the Canadian Museum For Human Rights with the theme of Inclusivity and Social Justice. In the morning, students listened to a variety of speakers.  Amongst the speakers were Wab Kinew, Jade Harper and Dr. Abdulreman.  Wab Kinew stressed to the students that it doesn't matter who you are and where you are from, you can achieve anything in life.  Jade Harper talked about how to respect the land and that everything in life involves the never ending circle.  Dr. Abdulrehman looked at the psychological impact when it comes to not including people of different backgrounds.  In the afternoon, students went on a tour of the Museum in search of particular exhibits such as Seeking Refuge, Canadian Journeys and Turning Points.  Some of the topics the students reflected on were: women's rights, children's rights, Pink Day and Indigenous beliefs.  One of the quotes the students found most inspiring while touring the museum was:  "All Human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights."  In the end, the students thought the day was such a life changing experience that it has encouraged them to look at things in a new way.
