Linwood School selected for Adopt A School Program

October 15, 2019

Linwoodnewsfeature.jpgLinwood School is in the market for some new educational resources after partnering with a local organization to help grow their library fund.

The Indigo Bookstore on Kenaston Boulevard chose to sponsor Linwood School for the fall of 2019 for the Indigo Adopt A School Program. The program is supported by the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation and helps Canadian elementary schools raise funds to purchase additional books and educational resources for students. Linwood School was selected for the 2019-2020 school year from more than 30 applications.

The Indigo Bookstore Kenaston Common dedicated three in-store promotion days to helping Linwood School grow their school and classroom library fund. The promotion days took place on three consecutive Saturdays, including September 21, 28 and October 5. Student ambassadors set up a booth for several hours each day and sold handmade goods created by all of the students in the school. On the first Saturday, the team sold student-made bookmarks and the following week they offered baked goods and treats available for purchase.  The final Saturday the booth sold student artwork created by many talented students at Linwood School.

In addition to the purchases customers made at the booth, the store also collected contributions at the till and sold wrapped, mystery books for customers to buy with proceeds supporting the Linwood initiative. The creative and culinary talents of the Linwood students, paired with the fundraising support of the bookstore, allowed Linwood School to raise a total of $4,300 for the school library fund.

β€œThis was an amazing opportunity for our school," shared Principal Mr. Miller. β€œThis partnership allowed us to almost double our library budget for the year."

The Linwood School Parent Council assisted in monitoring the booth and provided hands-on assistance for the students during the in-store promotions. A big thank-you to Indigo Bookstore Kenaston Common for making this opportunity possible for Linwood School. The main school library will see a surge of new books this year, based on the suggestions and reading preferences of the students. Congratulations to all involved in this successful campaign and thank you to all of the generous Winnipeg shoppers for the donations.
