I Love To Read Month

March 13, 2018

Phoenix School has welcomed its theme of Kindness with the reading of many appropriate picture books.

The school implemented the Battle of the Books.  Each class was assigned one of Mrs. Biggar's favourite picture books.

Room 16 started the persuasive recommendations with its comments about "Memoirs of a Parrot".  Memoirs of a Parrot was challenged by Room 8's "Stanley's Wild Ride", Room 1's "My Heart's Like a Zoo", Room 3's "Wild Berries".  It looked like "Memoirs of a Parrot" would be the most popular until Room 4 recommended "Sneezy the Snowman".  "Once Upon a Northern Night was recommended by Room 15 and finally Room 9 recommended "Thelma the Unicorn".

"Thelma, the Unicorn was the final winner.  The children had fun learning about the different books.  In addition, they learned a great deal about persuasive writing.  Mrs. Biggar has a wonderful display in the front foyer so that everyone could see books and those books which lost the popular vote.  The whole activity was great fun.

The school also implemented a school wide read-in on February 28th with a pajama and stuffy day.  Last year, there were a lot of children without family attendees and these children, regrettably, were very upset.  Our intention is to always be inclusive so the school implemented a school-age, read-in with children partnering up with other friends in other rooms and grade levels.  The whole event was a great success!i love to read 2.jpg
