Spirit Week 2019

April 16, 2019

This last week in March was again designated Spirit Week and the children had a lot of fun.  We raised $711.60 for Winnipeg Harvest by implementing the following activities for the week:
***  It must be noted that a good number of the children bring in their money donations at the beginning of the week.***

Here is a break-down of the contributions throughout the week:
 -  Monday            Crazy Hair and Hat Day                                         $192.20
 -  Tuesday          Chewsday & money for Pie Throw Wednesday $458.60                                                                               - - Thursday         Dress as a famous Person                                      $31.80
-   Friday              St. Patrick's Day Tabloid                                       $29.00
                             Total:                                                                         $711.60

The Phoenix students were very disappointed that we approached Festival du Phoenix differently this year.  We had The Spence Tradition perform and we did the bannock and hot chocolate but they really missed the various activity stations implemented for an entire afternoon.

As a result, the Phoenix staff implemented a St. Patrick's Day Activity afternoon on Friday, March 22nd.

The following stations were created and developed:

- Dr. Seuss Read-a-louds and related activities
- Exploring the Jungle Gym & Bouldering Wall
- Cabbage Crawl Relay
- St. Patrick's Day word search on the Smartboard
- Lucky Charms cereal in which each guest will need 1 bowl and a plastic spoon.  The box of cereal is in one big bowl across the room.  The object of the game is to get as many marshmallows out of the bowl filled with cereal and into your team's bowl, all within a given time.
- St. Patrick's Day Craft
- Making Green Slime
- St. Patrick's Day Bingo
- St. Patrick's Print Art using green peppers for printing
- Musical Shamrocks
- The students also has a food station.  Parent volunteers helped to implement this station and they brought along their home-made sugar cookies. The students applied their own green or white icing, and white milk was served.  The students could choose to colour their milk green if they would liked.  It was surprising how many students chose green milk and enjoyed it.
It was a fun afternoon and everyone had a great time.  Many children commented: "We should do this all the time!"
