Five Medals at Provincial Concours Event

May 22, 2018

Jessica.jpgThe 2018 Provincial Concours d'art oratoire event took place on May 5 at l’Université de Saint-Boniface. A total of 12 students in Grades 3 through 12 competed at the annual event on behalf of SJASD. Students represented the following schools: Stevenson-Britannia, Assiniboine, Bannatyne, Ness, Golden Gate and Sturgeon Heights.

Our students competed in the French Communication and Culture, French Immersion and the Francophone categories and did an exceptional job delivering their material. Concours d'art oratoire is an annual French public speaking event facilitated by the Manitoba branch of Canadian Parents for French (CPF -MB). It aims to help students develop effective speaking skills while simultaneously  improve their oral skills in their second language.

This year, the CPF-MB decided to continue to include a couple new categories that were originally piloted at the Divisional and Provincial levels last year. In previous years, students in the Grade 4, 5 and 6 French Communication and Culture category were asked to recite a poem among options
provided. This year, students once again presented a short speech about their lives. Some examples of other new categories include: telling a story individually or as a duo at the Grade 3/4 Early Immersion level, The Dragon’s Den in French Immersion Grade 9/10 and an Imaginary Conversation, a duo category for Grade 7/8 Early Immersion.

After competing at the Divisional level and placing first in their respective categories, the following students competed at provincials: Jessica J. and Amjad A. (Stevenson-Britannia), Afnaan A. (Bannatyne), Olive D. (Assiniboine), Zoe D.W. (Bannatyne), Van L. (Ness), Ryan H., Moussa D., Emma L. and Agape S. (Sturgeon Heights) and Colton M. and Meredith R. (Golden Gate). Congratulations to all 2018 Divisional and Provincial concours participants, as well as an extended applause for the following SJASD students who medalled at the event:
