Access Program at the University of Manitoba information session

The University of Manitoba’s Access Program provides you with a comprehensive support network that allows you to forge your way towards a successful academic future.

Who is the Program for?

Preference is given to:

  • Individuals who have not had the opportunity for successful university experience due to social, economic, geographic and cultural barriers, or a lack of formal education
  • Indigenous people (Métis, Status, Non-Status, Inuit), residents of Northern Manitoba, and low income earners
  • First-degree students with fewer than 27 credit hours (exceptions apply)

Please note, only residents of Manitoba can apply.

The Access Program provides academic and personal supports that are designed to increase student success. These include an extensive orientation to university expectations, common first year degree credit courses taught by Access Instructors in small classes, tutoring support, individualized academic advising, and personal and spiritual wellness supports provided by a counseling team and the Grandfather-in-Residence.

What university programs can you take as part of the Access Program?

University of Manitoba Access Program (UMAP) – open to all residents of Manitoba choosing an academic path leading to degrees in Social Work, Science, Arts, Kinesiology, Business, and Agriculture.

Health Careers Access Program (HCAP) – exclusive to Indigenous (Metis, Status, Non-Status, Inuit) residents of Manitoba, and designed to prepare you for entry to health-related professions such as Medicine, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Pharmacy, Medical Rehabilitation (Physical, Occupational, and Respiratory Therapy), Nursing, and Midwifery.
