The St. James-Assiniboia School Division provides quality Arts Programming for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Band, Choral, Dance, Drama, Graphic Arts, Musical Theatre, Photography and Visual Arts programming are offered throughout the Division's 26 schools to support student learning through the Arts.
The benefits of Arts Education are numerous and profound. From supporting self-expression, to fostering creativity and supporting student growth, the Arts are necessary for human health and social well-being. Students that explore the Arts contribute to preserving and nurturing human culture and heritage, while developing communication and collabouration skills.
Division-Level Initiatives
I
n addition to school-based Arts Programming, the St. James-Assiniboia School Division also supports Division-level initiatives, including three Concert Choirs for students in Grades 4–12, as well as a Divisional Musical featuring students from across the with student participation from up to 21 schools at the Early and Middle Years level. Years and Middle from Grades 4 to 8.
The Division hosts a full-day Music Celebration each spring for families, friends, and community members to watch our young Early Years performers take the stage with a variety of musical and movement performances.
In June, dance students from Senior Years collaborate to bring SJASD Dancescapes to the stage at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People. Each school invited brings a unique performance to the stage ranging from Bollywood to tap. It's an event worth attending!
