Crestview Sustainability Challenge

February 18, 2020

Sustainability.pngFor the next month, the Clipper Council is putting on a Sustainability Challenge!

Sustainability means respecting our environment by not wasting our natural resources. Protecting the earth will help all living things in the future.

This challenge is to teach students about 3 main ways to be sustainable. These are:

1)   Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

2)   Saving Water

3)   Saving Energy

Clipper Council members will make posters and present to classrooms to spread the word about how to be sustainable.

Week one will focus on the 3 R's. We challenge students to use the blue bin properly and pack a litter-less lunch.

Week two will focus on saving water. The challenge is saving water at home and school. We can do this by:

1)Taking shorter showers

2)Turn of the tap when you brush teeth.

3)Take shorter drinks at the water fountain

4)Make sure you have a full loud of dishes or clothes before you start the machine.

The third week will highlight energy usage. Our school challenge will be to have blackout afternoons where we turn off all electricity in our classrooms such as light smartboards, and iPads. We challenge students to talk to their families about turning off electronics when they are not in use, and to turn off the lights when leaving a room.

We are excited to educate our community about helping our planet! We hope you will participate at home too!
