Hello Bruce Families,
Congratulations to the Tier 1 boys basketball team and Coach Mr. Krahn on their thrilling tournament win this last weekend!
It is nearing the middle of February and Staff appreciation week is here. Please feel free to drop your child’s teachers or educational assistant a quick note of appreciation if you are so inclined. I know it would be greatly appreciated.
This week is also our Spirit Week to highlight I Love to Read Month activities and initiatives. It was great to see so many students wearing their jersey for Team Up to Reading!
Tuesday is “Wear Your Words”- clothing with wording
Wednesday – Red/Pink Day
Thursday – Book Character Day – dress as your favourite
Friday – Cozy up and Read Day – Wear comfy clothing/pyjamas and get comfortable reading
Registration forms for all students have now gone home. Grade 6 and 7 students should have theirs returned to the office (if not already done so) and Grade 8 students have just received theirs. High school registrations are due back on the 23rd. To help with the process we will have an information evening Tuesday, February 13th. If you have questions about what courses to register your child for, what is the credit system, expectations for next year or general how do I?, then Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 in the Bruce Library we will be available. Sturgeon Heights staff will be coming to the school on the 15th to speak to the students about their course choices. If you wish to apply for a school of choice outside of your catchment area, the link on the divisional website will go live at 8:00am on the 16th.
On Wednesday the 14th, we will start the day with a special guest speaking to all students. “Frisbee Rob” McLeod is a Canadian motivational speaker who will bring his frisbees, Guiness world records (13!), world championships (14!) and motivational speaking to the Bruce students. The grade 7 students won the latest minute to win it championship and have earned cotton candy for their efforts, which they will receive on Wednesday. Thank you to the parent council executive for providing the funding for the machine!
It has come to our attention that some students may be using an app called WizzApp (https://wizzapp.com/). This app poses potential risks to the online safety and content appropriateness for younger users. We suggest addressing this with your child, especially if your child is currently using or has expressed interest in this application. As always, we encourage all parents/guardians to monitor their child's use of social media and internet applications.
