Germs Away
by Room 8
How well do you wash your hands? We learned the proper way to wash your hands from Breanne, a public health nurse. Here are the steps:
1. Wet your hands in warm water.
2. Put soap in your palm and rub it all over.
3. Be sure to scrub your fingertips, knuckles, between your fingers and on your wrists.
4. You should take at least 20 seconds or sing Happy Birthday in your head 2 times.
5. Dry your hands well.
For our presentation, Breanne had a stuffed dog covered in cornstarch for each of us to hold. After each of us held the dog, we washed and dried our hands and checked how well we washed using a special black light machine. It surprised us that so many germs can get onto our hands and that we have to scrub really well to clean them. So, next time you wash your hands, follow our steps, be mindful and scrub well to get rid of those nasty germs.
Kindergarten Rm. 1
On January 30th
and 31st, the morning and afternoon Kindergarten classes had a very
special visitor! We met with Breanna
Remple, our communities Public Health Nurse, to learn about proper handwashing
techniques. Breanna taught us about how
germs can be spread through uncovered coughs and sneezes, and by not properly
washing our hands before we eat and after we use the bathroom. The students had the opportunity to pass
around a stuffed animal that had some pretend “germs” on it (cornstarch
powder!) After everyone had the chance
to hold the bear, we all took turns washing our hands using the proper
technique that Breanna had taught us.
Finally, everyone got to put their hands in Breanna’s “germ detector” (a
black light) to see if they were able to wash off all of the pretend
“germs”. We learned that the hardest
spots to get clean were our wrists and our knuckles, so we are going to try our
best to remember to rub these areas well when we wash our hands. Thank you, Breanna, for coming to visit!
