Join the LMS Indigenous Planning Team

September 01, 2023

Indigineous art.pngTo increase community connections and partnerships, we are offering all the opportunity to be a member of our Lincoln Indigenous Planning Team at Lincoln Middle School.  The goal of this planning team is to strengthen our ability to provide meaningful and authentic Indigenous perspectives, teachings, stories, and practices to ensure our school is increasingly inclusive for all.

Who is invited and how do I join?  Parents, community members, students, staff, and/or anyone who is passionate about this topic are welcome to join. There is strength in diversity.  If interested, please send an email to lincoln@sjasd.ca and request to receive future messages from the planning team.

When and where do we meet? We will be meeting frequently throughout the school year. Generally, these meetings will happen at the school, and during the school day. There will also be opportunities to join us outside of regular school hours, virtually or contribute via email, surveys or whatever your schedule allows. No commitment is too small! We value whatever contribution you can make.

Indigenous Planning Team Goals:

1. Richer Learning: We'll blend Indigenous ideas, teachings, and perspectives into our learning spaces and lessons, for richer learning experiences.

2. Special Events: We will plan ways to honour Truth and Reconciliation Week, Orange Shirt Day, Red Dress Day, seasonal changes and more.

3. Community Connections: Linking our school with families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to learn from each other.

4. Useful Resources: Sourcing relevant and appropriate tools for teachers and students to explore, learn about, and celebrate Indigenous cultures.

5. Culturally Aware: sharing wisdom to help everyone respect and understand a variety of cultures within our school community and beyond.
