Parent Council Support for the School

2017-18

Phoenix Parent Council is a tremendous supporter of the school's activities and the learning activities for the students.  Through their fundraising; Parent Council are helping to cover 50% of the costs of the following activities:

·         "The Birth of the CPR" which was presented at the school on October 6th.
·        Micheal ManyEagles, who is returning to do more soap stone carving with the students.  He will concentrate his storytelling on Indigenous Water Stories.
·        Winnipeg Humane Society presentations were held at the end of October and early November.
·        The Star Dome visited the school in January and February.  Kindergarten students received the program "The Sky Zoo".  All the other classes received the program "Star Stories" which provided the children with the Indigenous philosophy about the sun and stars.  In addition, the students in grades 1 to 5 received a second program which was connected to their science curriculum.
·        Manitoba Theatre for Young People Touring Play: "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be performing at the school on April 27th.

In addition, Parent Council pays 100% of the costs for the buses for the students to travel to the Headingley Community Centre for the Winter Concert on December 7^th and for the Spring Concert on May 17^th.

As well, Parent Council supports the school with the food station at the Festival du Phoenix and they implement the Scholastic Book Fair every year.  Due to the construction at the school; the Scholastic Book Fair will be implemented with the March Parent / Teacher / Student Interviews on March 15 and 16, 2018.  All procedures from the Scholastic Book Fair Sales goes to the purchase of additional library books.

The school greatly appreciates the support from the Parent Council and the parent community so that these educational activities are available for all the students.

Last year, the school requested financial support of $2,699.95.
