Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate Grade 10 student Kayleigh Redekopp designed the pin as part of a class assignment last fall.
Technology Education teacher Jason Bilous challenged each of his students to create a design for the competition. Kayleigh's design was a poly-art abstract version of the bison, which she created in Adobe Illustrator.
“It was great because she used the skills learned from a previous assignment," explains Jason, adding that he is “super excited and proud that a Grade 10 [student's] design was selected from all the grade-level entries."

Kayleigh also won a cash prize of $500 for her efforts, in addition to the exposure her work will receive at the national event.
More than 550 students and apprentices from across Canada participate in the multi-trade and technology competition each year, which features over 40 competitions and boosts exposure to trade and technology careers.
Huskies will be competing in the 28th Annual Skills Manitoba Competition in April. Should students take home any gold medals this year, they will have the opportunity to compete as part of Team Manitoba in Toronto. Last year, Huskies took home a record 20 medals (including 7 golds) in the provincial competition in several categories, including Computer Animation, Electronics, Game Design, Graphic Design, Job Search, Public Speaking, and Workplace Safety.
