To our families of Golden Gate,

We would like to wish everyone all the best in their spring sports, whether these are activities at school, or outside the school, have fun and have a great season! It is also great to see the number of bikes coming to school everyday. Ride safe and be respectful of others on the road. Our divisional wheel challenge is around the corner, please pick up your Bingo Cards from the office to participate. Let's go Jets!!

Guest Speaker

Wilfred Buck is a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and a respected elder within our community. He is an Indigenous Astronomy Expert, Educator, and Consultant. When he was a Science Facilitator at the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Center, he studied ININIW ACAKOSUK (Cree Stars and Constellation).  His knowledge and his contributions have helped him become known world-wide as a prominent expert on Indigenous Astronomy. He will be bringing his portable planetarium to Golden Gate on May 13th where he will have the opportunity to share his knowledge of Indigenous Astronomy with our students.

News from the Gym

Tier 1 and Tier 2 Badminton are going well. The Divisional Badminton Tournament will take place after school on May 8th and May 9th at St. James Collegiate and George Waters Middle School. Our Intramurals program will continue for the month of May, alternating days for all grade 6, 7 and 8 students allowing all interested students to participate.

Ultimate Frisbee is also now in full swing. Students are eager for some nice weather to continue brushing up their skill set. Practices will take place on Mondays from 3:45-4:45 pm and games on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm (location and dates to be determined). The season will be completed by Wednesday, May 22nd.

Lastly, our World Cup Soccer Intramurals will begin the last week of May with sign up taking place the week of May 12th. A sign up sheet will be posted directly outside the gym on the whiteboard for any students interested in participating. Stay tuned for more information!

SJASD Wheel Challenge

Once again, the SJASD β€œWheel Challenge" will take place from May 21 to June 10, 2024. It is a chance to celebrate and encourage students to β€œwheel" on a regular basis.  So, roller-skate, rollerblade, bike, scooter, use your wheelchair or bike your way to wellness AND White Pine has partnered to provide prizes for students! Two years ago, the proud winner of this bike came from Golden Gate! Have fun, peddle lots, and be safe! Please find attached the Parent letter for further information! Mark your calendars! Bingo cards will be made available from the office for those wanting one.

Great Gators

We have our Great Gator Celebrations taking place next Thursday at 9:15 am. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend, however, seating is limited as this is a school wide assembly. If your child is to receive an award, parents/caregivers will be notified by the teacher making the nomination by the end of this week.

We will not be telling students receiving an award as we would like this to be recognized at the assembly. If you could please upon learning if your child is receiving an award, not let them know as well, thank you. We will also be livestreaming our Great Gator Celebration. Our live website is here:

Social Media

Parents/caregivers please continue to do regular check ins with your child regarding their social media accounts, and the apps that they may be using and group chats. Students should not be accepting people they do not know, or people who do not identify by their names for safety reasons. Any misuse should be reported to the social media platform provider to shut it down. Parents/caregivers are the owners of the phones and parameters should be established to ensure your child is being socially responsible and being a good digital citizen.

Lunch Program

Just a friendly reminder that if your child is in the lunch program and would like to leave school property for lunch that we require a note giving permission brought in to your child's homeroom teacher at the start of the day.
