My hope is that the majority of students will be able to access Showbie from home (either via an app or the internet desktop site). To ensure the continuation of learning, as a group we had a lengthy discussion about the types of things that the students would feel comfortable doing during this time of distance learning.

In the event that anyone is unable to remember passwords/usernames, students can either sign up for a new account or contact me for usernames and password reset options.

I have also provided students with paper copies of all work (if they were at school on Tues March 17 or it can be picked up from office on Tues March 24). Students may choose to work digitally or on paper, whichever method will work best for your family is fine.  If students decide to work on paper, photos may be taken of completed work to be handed into Showbie. If students encounter problems with this method of handing in work, they are welcome to keep the collection of completed work until we return to school on April 13. If students are struggling to complete tasks in full, please allow the opportunity to complete parts of work. Any student work is included as evidence of learning. I use completed work to help determine next steps in instruction/planning.  Please see the following letter which provides more detailed information Distance Learning Grade 6 McGowan.pdf

It can also be accessed from the web at https://zoom.us/

Items that will be essential for your student to have at home:  Their copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,  March/April writing journal,  Literature circle duotang,  Set of reading response bookmarks,  Their lit circle novel,  Post-its to use in novel to track thinking,  Random books to read for personal choice reading,  Crochet supplies (if they would like to work on this while away)

My Life: The Virus of 2020: This assignment is one that students who are working offline who will struggle to get on the blog can do from home on paper. ( Corona Journal.pdf )  Students who are on the blog regularly can still do this, either digitally, on paper, on the blog, in whatever way they would like. It would be really cool if at the end of all this we could compile some of the students authentic reactions to events during this time, and compile them into a book of some sort.

         SHOWBIE CODE:      EE322

In order to best support student learning and plan for as little disruption as possible we will be using  ‘Showbie’. This is a distance learning forum that allows me to post assignments and allows for students and parents to access and monitor, as well as, for students to submit assignments for marking when completed! This forum does require digital access; this can be a laptop, computer, tablet, iPhone, iPad, etc.  Students can provide responses to assignments or annotate worksheets directly in the app in the form of text comments, the pen tool (which allows them to draw and write directly on the page) and pinned voice notes. They can also submit work to Showbie from virtually any other app, with some of the most popular being iMovie and Book Creator.  Please let me know if you do not have access to any technology in your home and I will make further arrangements for your child.

Once your child has access, they should be able to see three assignments that I’ve posted as well as many ‘optional’ bonus activities and assignments.  (‘First World’ Problems PowerPoint & journal response), (Country Comparison Project), (Lit Circle Assignments #2 & #3)

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I am working on getting parent access going as soon as possible and will send out a following email with that information. Here is a link with the information I have gathered so far.           https://support.showbie.com/en/articles/1420314-accessing-your-child-s-work-on-showbie

8A - Math (Ms. Miller)   jenna.miller@sjasd.ca

          SHOWBIE CODE:    39ZD3

It is the direction of the school division to continue learning at a distance in the weeks to come. Most students, at one point or another over the course of their middle school years have used Showbie at some point already. My hope is that the majority of students will be able to access Showbie from home (either via an app or the internet desktop site). To ensure the continuation of learning, as a group we had a lengthy discussion about the types of things that the students would feel comfortable doing during this time of distance learning.

While some students are already set up with accounts, I understand that kids may have forgotten usernames, passwords, etc. In the event that this is the case, students could always create a new account (signing up as a student with a username and a password that they will not forget) and rejoin the classes. Once students are logged on with a username and password, they will be invited to join a class.
