Hello Bruce Families,
With our last week before the break coming up, we hope you are rejuvenated by the warner weather and ready for a final push!
We thank all our staff and families for following the guidance of public health officials over the last two years and doing what you can to keep each other safe during the pandemic. We also want to acknowledge all the support we have received over that time, your patience and understanding has been greatly appreciated by the school staff.
The recent change in public health orders has mask use now listed as a strongly recommended action, but it is optional. We have spoken to all students and reminded them to be kind to each other and respect everyone’s personal choice. When we return from the break we will put into place the following changes:
- no cohorts for our grade 6 students
- students to change for PE
- return to locker use, but only for gym clothes and outdoor clothing – school supplies to stay in the classroom
- field trips will resume
With the easing of restrictions, it is still important that we continue to follow preventative measures such as:
- self-assessing and staying home when sick
- get vaccinated
- wash hands or use sanitizer frequently
- cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow
- make decisions about additional measures such as masking based on personal preference and risk
A COVID 19 vaccine clinic is scheduled to be held at Bruce on April 14th in the morning for 1st and 2nd doses. If your child has received one dose and a minimum of 8 weeks has passed since, they would be eligible to receive their second. Paper and online consent forms will be available after the break.
Teachers are finalizing report card comments and you can expect report cards to be sent out electronically on April 6. Hopefully good news is coming your way!
This coming week is Spirit week! Each day will have a theme and activity and here is the order of dress up days:
- Monday – Movie Monday (favourite character from a movie)
- Tuesday – Tip Top Tuesday (formal wear)
- Wednesday – Bruce Bear Day (Bear gear or our school colours-purple, black or gray)
- Thursday – Tropical Thursday (beach/warm weather gear)
- Friday – Lazy Day Friday (PJ’s/comfy clothes)
The school musical “Lion King Jr” is planned for an early May production. Keep posted for ticket information!
Thank you to our basketball teams and coaches for an exciting season! It was great to see spectators in our gyms for the first time in two years. Badminton is the next sport and tryouts will be happening next week, after school for Tier 1 and 2.
