Hello Bruce Families!

This was a very special weekend for many, and so whether you are celebrating Easter or recognizing this holy month of Ramadan, may you all find peace, happiness, health and wealth.

There are only 12 weeks of the school year remaining and we have lots of work to be done in that short time. Hopefully you have had a chance to share and celebrate your child’s report card that went home last Wednesday. This week we will be sending home provincial assessment summaries for grade 7 and grade 8 students in the form of a signed printout, so look for that in your child’s backpack on Wednesday.

These assessments were completed earlier in the year and represent where you child was at in Mathematics and Student Engagement (grade 7) or Reading and Writing (grade 8). There is no need for follow up for either report.

This Tuesday, MTYP will be at the school to put on their performance of Frozen River, co-written by Michaela Washburn, Joelle Peters and Carrie Costello.

“In nîkwatin sîpiy, Grandmother Moon tells the story of two eleven-year-olds, born under the same blood moon, but in different parts of the world. This new play follows their stories as they meet in a forest, and that of their descendants who meet in the present day in what is known as Manitoba. A broken promise from the past can be righted when there is finally an openness to learn from those who have protected and honoured the waterways for centuries.” -MTYP

Also Tuesday, at 6pm the school will be hosting our information evening to prospective parents and students currently in grade 5. Following an initial presentation in the gym, families will get a chance to tour the school and speak to staff. A special THANK YOU to Karmyn M. and Monica L. in grade 6 who will be speaking that night about their grade 6 experience.

Thursday is the date for Grade 8 PHOTOS. Make sure they look extra special for that day.

Friday is an In-service day so no school for students on that day.

Finally, don’t forget that “The SJASD Board of Trustees would like to hear from parents and caregivers as they develop the next Strategic Plan for the Division. The plan will cover the next four years and outline the Division’s key priorities as well as guide decisions and resources for school improvement.”

They are holding community consultation events across all SJASD schools and they’d love to hear from you. We encourage parents and caregivers to sign up for the community consultation event that is linked to their Family of Schools. Childcare will be provided.
