Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

It’s a beautiful day (and long weekend overall)l and I hope you are enjoying the changing of the seasons. Just a reminder for our new families, there is no school Monday because of Thanksgiving. In case you are wondering what Thanksgiving is all about, here is a link that explains everything:

The changing of the seasons is due to the changing of weather, and this means colder temperatures are on the way. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, we had some cold bodies come in from lunch the last couple days.

Speaking of colder weather, the St. James-Assiniboia School Division, in partnership with Ogijiita Pimatiswin Kinamatwin (OPK), is endorsing October as “Socktober - Mittens for Mitch”. As winter is approaching our unsheltered relatives are in need of mittens and socks.  Our school community is asked to bring in as many brand-new, un-opened, adult or kid-sized pair of mittens, gloves or socks to any St. James - Assiniboia school and help our unsheltered relatives living on the streets of Winnipeg.

This small act of love can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbours. Please see the attached poster.

Two important events occur this month in our ongoing work towards reconciliation – on Wednesday, we have a presentation for all students about the importance of treaties and the need for reconciliation and then later in the month we are honoured to be hosting The Witness Blanket, an art exhibit from the Museum of Human Rights that tells some of the stories of the experience and impact of residential schools. This large exhibit will be used as a learning tool for all students across the division and will also be made available for the public to view. Public viewing will be limited to evenings and weekends and those details will be announced soon.
