Hello Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds all families enjoying some of the joy and togetherness of the season.

This week will be the last school week of the 2023 school year and that means busy times, high expectations and sometimes that can lead to heightened anxieties. Whether the coming break is something to look forward to or not, the excitement or the concern can lead to behaviours spiking over the next while. Our job as the adults is to help the children manage their feelings and even co-regulate with them, help them see the connection between emotion and actions.

If your child will not be attending for all or part of the week, please take the time to report the absence in Safe Arrival or call the school office. Having an accurate attendance count will help us plan for a few of the activities this week.

Speaking of this week, it is Spirit Week!

Spirit Week Holiday Edition!Monday: Plaid – wear your favourite plaid wearTuesday: Beach wearWednesday: Ugly Sweater day, the uglier the better!Thursday: Holiday Colours – Hot chocolate available (free) in the morning, staff/student

There will be no pizza available this week as it the Healthy Hunger week (though tasty hunuger may be more appropriate ????. Those wishing to purchase KFC for Friday’s lunch can visit the link on our website for all of the information. Please keep in mind that the deadline for orders is Sunday.  https://www.sjasd.ca/school/bruce

Eventually the weather will be getting colder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to spend 40 minutes outside. We will be going outside for lunch recess until the temperatures reach -25 Celcius.

I want thank our community for your generosity through the last couple of months. You have provided some measure of joy to many families in our community, whether it was through a food donation, winter gear, or a donation to the Christmas sale, I can’t express how grateful I am to be a part of such a caring community. I wish I could share the joy we get to see in kids’ eyes after they bought a gift for a family member. The ability to share or gift an item to loved ones has a special place in expanding our love language for each other. I hope you enjoy the special trinket your child may have purchased.

Have a wonderful break everyone. On behalf of Mrs. Cantafio and all of the staff at Bruce Middle School, thank you for sharing the special gift that is your child. May you all find peace and happiness in the coming weeks and in the new year. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate Christmas and Happy New Year! And now, if it’s ok with you, we will soon return your gift to you for a couple weeks while we rest.

All the best everyone,

D. MacNeil
