Hello Bruce Families!

We hope you have all had a good start to the new year. It’s hard to believe (for us in the school anyway) that January is almost over. February is I Love To Read and Black History Month. Students will be engaged in activities across the grades and subjects exploring both topics.

Congratulations to the bands and choir for a fabulous Winter Concert this last Thursday evening! Each group sounded incredible, and their hard work was evident with each piece performed. Thank you and congratulations to Ms Senicar for such a successful evening.

Registration forms for grade 6 and 7 students went home on Friday. The forms are pre-filled with your child’s demographic information so please make sure you receive them. Forms are due back on February 9.

Our grade 8 students will receive their high school registration forms on February 9, due back on the 23rd. One important change in the registration process this year affects those who do not live in the Bruce catchment area. If Sturgeon Heights is not your catchment school, you will not need to fill out an out-of-catchment registration form as all Bruce students can now choose to register there. If you choose for your child to attend their home school (John Taylor, Westwood or St. James Collegiate) they will be provided with the appropriate registration form.

The National Pink Shirt Day is coming up on February, the 28th. This day is focused on the prevention of bullying and the support of safe, inclusive spaces. A previous email had gone out with the details and orders are due January 29th. T-shirts are $13-$15, toques are $23 and sweatshirts $47-$53. Apparel is supplied by local suppliers Dreamcatcher Promotions and their design includes the logo “Be the Bear, Be the Protector” Orders can be made through your School Cash Online account.

Attention Grade 8 parents – We will be holding a Grade 8 Farewell meeting on the evening of February 26th, 6:30pm in the library. If you are interested in organizing a farewell for the grade 8 students, please plan to attend this meeting.

Please remember that this Friday is a professional development day so no school for students. Bruce Middle School will be hosting all middle year’s staff in the division as we explore Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the classroom.

Have a great week everyone!
