Monday April 13th Day 3 β
Today, we observe Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. We pause to honor the six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust, along with millions of others who suffered under Nazi persecution including political opponents, homosexuals, Jehovah's witnesses, people of colour, people with disabilities, and Roma and Sinti people. We remember individuals such as Anne Frank, whose diary has taught generations about hope in the face of hatred, and Elie Wiesel, who survived Auschwitz as a teenager and later dedicated his life to speaking out against injustice, later winning the Novel Peace Prize, and Janusz Korczak, a dedicated educator who chose to stay with the children in his care, even when it meant sacrificing his own life. Yom HaShoah reminds us of the dangers of antisemitism, discrimination, and indifference. As a community, we commit to treating one another with dignity and standing up against hatred in all forms. May the memories of the victims be a blessing, and may we honor them through kindness, courage, and respect for all.
