IDENTIFIED AREAS OF FOCUS:
Literacy- This year, our focus will be on strengthening the interconnected skills that support proficient reading, oral language, and writing in both English and French. Through explicit and structured literacy instruction in English and French, students will strengthen language comprehension and word recognition skills. Teachers will reinforce the reciprocal relationship between reading and writing, leading to deeper comprehension, increased engagement/sense of purpose, and greater skills in both areas. Opportunities for purposeful talk, retelling, and storytelling will support students in developing, organizing, and communicating ideas and in transferring oral language skills to written expression.
Numeracy- Through exploration, explicit instruction, and purposeful practice, students will strengthen their understanding of equality, number representation and decomposition, and the conceptual meanings of subtraction and regrouping through place-value understanding. Students will engage with concrete, visual, and symbolic representations and meaningful problems to develop, communicate, and justify their mathematical thinking. Teachers will collaboratively analyze divisional and provincial assessment data, student work, and classroom observations to identify strengths and areas for growth and determine responsive next instructional steps.
Indigenous-Inclusive Education: École Assiniboine is committed to provide important shared learning experiences and embed Indigenous Teachings such as Smudging, Beading, Ribbon Skirt Teachings, Star Blanket Teachings, Fire Teachings, Tipi Teachings and Elder Teachings into rich tasks, encouraging student opportunity to discuss and build on their learning.
