Attendance Policy

student.jpg

School attendance is a critical factor to a productive and successful school career. All schools in St. James-Assiniboia actively promote and encourage 100 per cent attendance for all our students. We encourage parents/caregivers to be actively involved in promoting their child’s attendance at school.

Attendance Expectations

  • Students are expected to be prepared & on time for all of their classes.
  • Students are expected to demonstrate positive effort within their classes & be engaged in their learning.

  • Knock on your classroom door
  • Enter quietly to minimize disruptions
  • Wait for a break in instruction to check-in with your teacher to ensure your attendance has been changed to LATE

  • 3 absences in any ONE course will prompt contact home
  • Several absences in any ONE or across multiple courses may result in a family meeting
  • Ongoing absences will result in not receiving credit for the course

What if my child will be absent from school?

If your child will be absent from school, we request that parents report their child's absence using the School Messenger system. Using School Messenger, absences can be reported using the SchoolMessenger app on your mobile device (iOS or Android), on the web, or by calling the toll-free interactive telephone system at 1-844-434-8116.

Click here for more information about getting yourself set up to use the School Messenger system.

What if my child will be arriving late for school?
Again, parents can report that their child will be arriving late for school using the School Messenger system.

Automated Attendance Calling Service
Every evening at 6:00 pm, the School Division's automated robo-call system will call home to ensure parents are apprised of any unexcused absences recorded throughout the day for their son or daughter. Additionally, parents can also check on attendance using the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
