School Closure/Student TransportationIn the event of extremely adverse circumstances, including severe storm
days, the Superintendent/Chief Executive Officer may decide to close all
or specific schools and/ or discontinue bus service, if it is in the best interests of the children that such actions be taken. The Superintendent/Chief Executive Officer shall
arrange for publication of the information as early as possible in
accordance with the Metro Superintendents Snowstorm protocol as
outlined in the division's Emergency Procedures Handbook.
Although circumstances necessitating the closure of schools are rare, there is a policy that outlines the procedures to be followed.
EBCD Procedures for Closures, Bus Cancellations and Other Emergenciesβ
More common in the winter months, however, are instances of extreme cold and/or snowstorms that may require the cancellation of school buses. The following conditions will dictate the cancellation of school buses:
- When the ambient
temperature is equal to or colder than -35ΛC (or -45ΛC with windchill).
- Blizzard warnings
- Snow covered or blocked roads, or other hazardous road conditions.
- Other emergencies that arise, the Superintendent/Chief Executive
Officer will determine if bus transportation should be cancelled.
School Closure
The Superintendent/Chief Executive Officer shall

Bus Cancellations
Weather Relation Cancellation- All parents, students and staff
should be notified in this manner before 0700 hours.
Individual Route Cancellations- In the event the route is cancelled, the Supervisor,
Transportation will ensure that all parents/guardians on the route are
notified of the cancellation. The Supervisor, Transportation will notify
the affected schools. β
