Mental Health Promotion Pilot Study

Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate was selected as the first high school in the St. James Assiniboia School Division to participate in the Comprehensive School Mental Health Promotion Pilot Study in collaboration with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. Last year, many of our teachers implemented several of the mental health modules found in Jennifer Katz's Ensouling Our Schools. This year, our commitment to increasing mental health awareness continues as our Counsellors, School Psychologist, and Social Worker will visit our Grade Nine ELA classes to share valuable lessons and strategies. Our lessons will be based on modules found in Ensouling our Schools as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. We will begin with a focus on an understanding of the teenage brain, followed by a brief examination of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. We hope this will be an informative and positive experience for our Grade Nine students! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Edwards at 888-0684.

Our Guidance counsellors are available to you during school hours, however, there is always 24-hour support available to you whenever you need it.

If you are in need of emotional support, please go to the Government of Manitoba's Healthy Living site and see their list of Crisis Services to find a toll-free number you can call anytime you need someone to talk to.
