The Annual St. James-Assiniboia Early Years Speed Stacking Tournament is an exciting event that brings together elementary school students to showcase their fine motor skills and speed stacking abilities. On April 24, 2024, SJASD Early Years schools converged on Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate for the competition. It was fantastic to see such dedication from both the students and the educators who support them throughout the process.
Mr. Vosper from Brooklands School had the very important role of Speed Stacking Convenor, and as always, he made sure the event ran smoothly. This event places an emphasis on practice as the key to improvement, while at the same time highlighting the importance of dedication and perseverance in honing skills. It's not just about the competition but also about the journey of setting goals, practicing, and seeing the tangible results of one's efforts.
It's also noteworthy how cup stacking isn't just a fun activity, but also a means to develop fundamental skills like hand-eye coordination, concentration, and agility, which are invaluable for various tasks in life, from writing to using tools.
Acknowledging that the teachers and volunteers play crucial roles in organizing and facilitating such events is important too. This devotedness ensures that students have the opportunity to participate and excel in these extracurricular activities. It was clearly evident that the fastest stackers put in many additional hours outside of the school day as long-standing divisional records fell. This is a testament to the commitment of the stackers.
Overall, it's wonderful to see initiatives like the Speed Stacking Tournament fostering not only physical skills but also important life skills like commitment and teamwork among students.
