Divisional Musical Theatre

Each year, up to 150 students in Grades 4 to 8 from across the school division are selected to make up two casts for a Divisional Musical Production. Students rehearse from September to January with the final production being presented at semester break.

Each cast rehearses on a specified day, beginning in September. Elementary students are required to attend one weekly rehearsal. Students with lead roles are required to attend two weekly rehearsals. There are typically additional rehearsals for the entire cast three weeks prior to the show.

Past productions have included: Shrek Jr., Madagascar Jr., Finding Nemo Jr., Moana Jr., Frozen Jr., Seussical, The Musical Jr., James and the Giant Peach Jr., and Junie B. Jones. The Divisional Musical Theatre program is directed by Paula Olko, paula.olko@sjasd.ca. A different musical is performed each year inside the Westwood Collegiate theatre.

The Little Mermaid Jr.

The Divisional musical for the 2026–27 school year is The Little Mermaid Jr. and runs from January 23 to 30, 2027. More details will be available in the fall.
