St. James-Assiniboia School Division
Great Schools for Growing and Learning
Arts Education

The St. James-Assiniboia School Division provides quality Arts Programming for all students in Kindergarten to grade 12 in order to 'support, promote and inspire the growth of all students as artistic learners.' (Manitoba Education, 2011, p. 10).

Music, band, visual arts, dance, drama, dance and musical theatre programming are offered throughout the division's 26 schools to support student learning through the Arts.

In addition to school arts programming, the St. James-Assiniboia School Division supports three divisional choirs for students in grades 5-12. The choirs exist to provide musical enrichment to talented young singers in the division, choral entertainment to others and to perform and compete in competitions and festivals. The divisional choir season runs from September- May.

The SJASD Divisional Musical Theatre Program consists of approximately 180 students from grades 4-8. The program runs from September-February and consists of a week-long production that runs each year at semester break.

St. James-Assiniboia School Division also hosts an annual Art Exhibition in April each year, featuring the work of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 across an array of mediums.

Every June, students from Early, Middle and Senior Years collaborate to bring SJASD Dancescapes to the stage. From Bollywood to tap, each troupe communicates a story through dance.

SJASD Music Skills Camp for Grade 7 students takes place each year in October at Camp Arnes. The camp is an opportunity for students to hone in on their musicianship skills in an environment that promotes community and team spirit. Grade 8 Band students participate in a one-day skills camp at the University of Manitoba in May. â€‹
