Early Years Students Compete in Annual Cup Stacking Competition

May 05, 2025

by J.J. Ross, Physical Education and Health Education Coordinator, SJASD

EcAssin_1_webnews.jpgThe Annual St. James-Assiniboia Early Years Speed Stacking Tournament continues to be a highlight of the school year, offering young students an opportunity to showcase their fine motor skills and lightning-fast stacking abilities. On April 23, 2025, Early Years students from across SJASD gathered at Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate for this exciting competition.

It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and determination of the students, supported every step of the way by dedicated educators and volunteers. Their encouragement and guidance play a vital role in making events like this possible.

Special thanks go to Mr. Vosper from Brooklands School, who once again took on the important role of Speed Stacking Convenor. His leadership ensured the day ran smoothly and efficiently, allowing students to focus on what they do best—stacking with speed, skill, and sportsmanship.

The tournament serves as a powerful reminder that practice truly leads to progress. Beyond the medals and rankings, this event emphasizes perseverance, goal setting, and the satisfaction of seeing hard work pay off.

More than just a fun activity, cup stacking helps students develop essential skills like hand-eye coordination, focus, and agility—abilities that transfer to everyday tasks such as writing, tool use, and even teamwork.

We're proud to celebrate an event that not only fosters physical ability but also nurtures key life skills that students will carry with them well beyond the classroom. Congratulations to all participants, and thank you to everyone who helped make the 2025 tournament such a success!
