How did June creep up on us so quickly? Another school year is almost over. June is the most exciting time of year for students and staff!
Pride Parade
We kicked off the month by participating in the Winnipeg Pride Parade on Sunday, June 1. I look forward to coordinating this event every year on behalf of the Division in cooperation with SJASD staff, students, and Board Members. This is the second year that we've registered as a float, which allows us to include an SJASD school bus as part of our Pride group. Students personalize the bus with bright paint, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
To see people in the crowd cheer and holler encouragements as we walk by is a wonderful feeling. Some are cheering us because they attended a school in SJASD. When individual school groups walk past, they cheer for the school they attended and for our students now. Most say they wish they had the opportunity to walk in the Pride parade when they were in school. We walk LOUD and we walk PROUD to support our students, families, and staff!!
June Outlook
The next three weeks will be busy and stressful for students who may be taking exams or getting caught up to ensure all assignments are in. To SJASD students I say: “You got this. Take your time, a deep breath, and close your eyes for a moment before you put pencil to paper."
Congratulations to the students going from elementary to middle school, and middle school students moving on to high school! For many, these are big steps to take, and the change can be stressful. As parents or guardians, please keep an eye on your child to ensure they are coping well with the upcoming change. If not, please reach out to your child's new school and talk with School Administrators.
Finally, a big congratulations to our graduating Grade 12 students, St. James-Assiniboia School Division's Class of 2025!! Whether you are a Piper, Husky, Warrior, Jimmie, or a JAS student, walk proudly across that stage. Accept your graduation diploma with a big smile on your face and pause for a moment. Let your parents and relatives take as many pictures as they want—they are so proud of the person you have become! Good luck on the next path you choose—whether it be trade school, university, college, working, or travelling in Canada or overseas—all the best to you.
I would like to say thank you to ALL St. James-Assiniboia School Division staff for the unbelievable and sometimes invisible work you do for all our students and the Division.
Here is to having a safe and well-deserved summer break!
