On Saturday, October 17, 2026, a fast-moving grass fire during training exercises resulted in the death of four soldiers from the 3rd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, with another 39 Canadian Armed Forces members taken to hospital—at least 19 in critical condition.
