​Over the last few weeks, SJASD staff and students have been learning about the impact of residential schools in Canada.

From age-appropriate classroom lessons, to school-wide assemblies, art installations, and literature readings, students and staff are remembering Survivors and honouring the many communities impacted by this legacy today.

As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we are also raising the Survivors' flag at the Board office and at all five high schools, and will lower flags to half-mast across all schools and buildings from the end of the school day on September 29, to the beginning of the school day on October 1.

These efforts are a part of SJASD's larger commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments all-year round that are representative of Indigenous cultures, languages, and histories.

On September 30, we remember the children who never came home, honour the Survivors and their families, and commit to ongoing Reconciliation. 🧡
