​The St. James-Assiniboia School Division uses over 1000 chemicals in laboratories, shops, and general maintenance. Science teachers ensure a comprehensive inventory is maintained for lab chemicals using the Chemical Inventory Control database (see link).
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available for all school division chemicals. The school division subscribes to MSDS On-Line. The service hosts all our SDSs.
SDSs are a component of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). Staff must be trained in WHMIS. The Safe Work Manitoba link includes a free WHMIS on-line course.​
