Aviation Student Goes from Ground School to Flight Training

June 23, 2023

IMG_0094_adjusted_instagram.jpgCollège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate (CSHC) student Tyler Wurm was featured in the Community Review West newspaper this week after winning the prestigious Ray Aviation Scholarship.

The award, presented by local Chapter 63 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), supports a promising student through the written and practical segments of flight training that are required to obtain a pilot certification. The scholarship is valued at up to $11,000 U.S..

Tyler is currently enrolled in CSHC's Aviation Program, a highly sought after eight-credit private pilot ground school that helps students get a head start in the aviation or related industries. As featured in the news article, Tyler has been interested in flying since he was 12 and joined the Air Cadets. With the help of the Ray Scholarship, he hopes to earn his private pilot licence as soon as he turns 17. His long-term goal is to become a commercial pilot flying charter aircraft.

Tyler takes to the skies this summer. In place of ground school simulators, he'll be taking flight training with Harv's Air out of the St. Andrews Airport. Chapter 63 EAA members will mentor Tyler throughout this process.
